What is home? This question might evoke thoughts of family, a physical location or maybe even religion. My girlfriend Renée grew up going to church with her family every Christmas and that memory encapsulates what she feels home is about. Despite this, she is no longer religious. So how does one balance their lack of belief and still connect deeply with that aspect of their life? Renée dives into how tradition plays a role in her definition of home.

Renée's family Christmas, a photo of her at her christening and her with her presents on Christmas day.

In project we were tasked with creating a short clip that showcased narrative and storytelling, while also practicing basic editing and EQing. Through this process I realized that there were a lot of small details that go into sound design. Despite my audio recorder staying in the same spot, Renée was nervous about the interview and so she was fidgeting and moving in her chair which meant I had to correct differences in voice volume throughout the clips to make things more cohesive.

I also did not realize how many filler words and long pauses we took when speaking and so editing those out without losing content also was difficult!

Radio Throw

Alongside the audio portrait, I was challenged to create a radio throw for the audio as if it was to be featured on the air.
